The point of this verse is quite clear: The more one gives, the more God gives back in return. All other factors aside, in this verse lies the foundational truth that determines the measure of your prosperity. If you are operating under God’s favour and provision, know that your harvest would be determined by what and how you sow.
Have you ever wondered why some Christians become rich financially, and others struggle, even though they were given the same opportunities? It may be how they gave for the giving that God approves of comes from a cheerful giver.
Know that God is not a respecter of persons. And He does not rob Peter to pay Paul. He may choose to give you one seed, and another two seeds and another five. He knows your ability. It is not how many seeds you receive but how you sow the seeds He has given you. That is what Paul is saying to us in today’s verse; sow bountifully and you will reap bountifully. Remember Jesus’ words that “with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God gives seed to the Sower. As a Christian, you are a Sower. How do you sow, sparingly, or bountifully? Do you hide or eat your seed? Or do you sow as God directs?
Am I an occasional giver or a consistent giver?
Pray: Father, help me to know the seed of grace You have given me. And help me sow bountifully. Amen!
